Print-maker and painter Roz Howling is inspired by the natural world. In this solo show she returns to Huntingdon Art Gallery with work that shows how she responds to the seasons and varied landscapes, and adapts her printing techniques to achieve painterly, evocative effects. She has selected artworks which combine monoprint, lino, and lithography.

About the Artist: Roz Howling
It’s integral to Roz’s work that she has experienced the places she depicts directly. Her love of the great outdoors shines through in her artworks. She sketches and photographs scenes during hikes, walks with her 2 dogs, and during time snatched outside of work trips which take her nation-wide.
Roz is also fascinated by evolution – slow but powerful change – and is driven to capture this in her work. This is reflected by both her subjects, which include varied landscapes and seasons and the lifecycles of trees and woodland flowers; and also the way in which she makes her work.
Small editions of prints are crafted so that no two are the same. In contrast to lithography which fixes her expressive linework for consistency between prints, combining this with mono-print introduces spontaneity and subtle or extreme shifts in colour application from one print to the next. Meanwhile her reduction lino editions develop through carving away from each previously completed stage – there is no going back. Roz conveys the wonder and excitement of this in her expressive finished work.
Roz exhibits widely, is based in Newmarket and is a member of Curwen Print Study Centre where she completed her Certificate in Fine Art Printmaking.
